Senior Forward Katie Enaire Recognized for Five-Goal Week
LOWELL (Nov. 8, 2010) – Senior forward Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) was recognized as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, while freshman midfielder Rachel McCarthy (Reading, Mass.) earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks. The duo helped lift the No. 2 UMass Lowell field hockey team to a 2-0 week with wins over Bentley and Adelphi.
The River Hawks, who boast an unblemished 19-0 overall record and 9-0 clip in conference action, clinched at least a share of the 2010 NE-10 Field Hockey Regular Season Title with a 5-1 victory over Adelphi on Saturday afternoon. They will take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in their final regular season game.
Enaire tallied five goals on the week, including game-winners in both of the River Hawk victories. First, in a midweek tilt at Bentley, Enaire notched a pair of goals and followed up by recording a hat trick on Saturday in a 5-1 win over Adelphi.
The forward’s offensive outpouring brought her to 161 career points (73g, 15a) to rank her second on the program’s all-time scoring list. Her 24 goals this season tie her with classmate Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) to lead the conference.
Enaire, a nursing major, is the daughter of Anne and Bill Enaire of Amesbury, Mass.
McCarthy, a freshman midfielder, recorded a goal and an assist on the week, including her eighth tally of the year in the victory over Adelphi on Saturday.
The rookie has earned her way into the River Hawks’ starting lineup and has tallied 22 points on the year (8g, 6a) to tie Southern Connecticut’s Sarah Cebry for the most among NE-10 freshmen.
McCarthy, a criminal justice major, is the daughter of Michele and Paul McCarthy of Reading, Mass.
Prior to Wednesday evening’s tilt against Saint Anselm, the River Hawks will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2011 with a brief Senior Night ceremony on Cushing Field.
