Bobcats’ Boykin Leads Bobcats Past Bears 67-57

MACON, Ga. - Sophomore transfer Karisma Boykin (Carrollton, Ga.) served up a team-high 20 points, leading four players in double-digit scoring as the Georgia College Bobcats beat the Mercer Bears 67-57 in an exhibition game Thursday night.

Boykin also had eight boards, two steals and an assist. Senior guard Chimere Jordan (Gray, Ga.) added 18 points, nine rebounds and five steals.

GC was only down at one time during the entire length of the game, coming during the first half when the Bears were on top 4-2. Boykin hit back-to-back free throws to tie the contest and the Bobcats never looked back.

Senior Dominique Huffin (Tucker, Ga.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. The senior guard also tallied three assists, two steals and two blocks. Tammeisha Law (Athens, Ga.) added to Georgia College’s scoring efforts, putting up 10 points and seven rebounds.

At halftime, the Bobcats led by 11 as the score was 33-22.

Mercer made a late push in the second half and got within three when Rebecca Clanton hit a jumper to make the score 56-53 in favor of Georgia College at 5:02 left.

Neicey Lewis and Brittnee Hazel led the Bears with 11 points apiece. Mercer’s Alex Phillips had a team-best 14 rebounds.

GC shot 23-of-69 (.333) from the floor and 19-of-30 (.633) from the charity stripe as Mercer was 25-of-77 (.325) from the floor and 4-of-7 (.571) from the free-throw line.

The ‘Cats were out-rebounded 52-51 but were able to force 19 turnovers, scoring 20 points off those takeaways.

The Bobcats open the regular season on the road against Anderson University Friday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
