Women's Soccer: DSC 4, Dominican 2

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — A promising 2-0 first half lead turned into a disappointing 4-2 loss for the Dominican University of California women's soccer team against Dixie State College on Thursday afternoon in Pacific West Conference action.

Dominican (7-9-1/6-6-1) was dominant in the first half. Junior Katie Brown got the scoring started at the 25th minute when her shot from the right side hit the left post and richocheted into the back right of the net. The Lady Penguins tacked on to their lead a minute later when Lexi Humphry fired a shot point-blank straight down the middle of the net.

The Lady Penguins' lead would not hold up though, as Dixie State (11-6-0/8-5-0) scored four goals in the second half. The first came at the 59-minute mark and the equalizer came 10 minutes later. The Red Storm took the lead for good in the 70th minute and added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.

"Today’s graduating class of Seniors marked Phil [Billeci-Gard's] and my first full recruiting class," said Dominican Head Coach Jon Delano. "These six women — Rita Caskey,  Christine Coleman, Bridget Folan, Michelle Mason, Kelly Miura, and Marli Sangervasi — have paved a path of tradition for current and future Dominican women's soccer players."

The Dominican women finish the season on the road at Notre Dame de Namur University on Sunday, November 7. Kickoff in Belmont is slated for 2:00 p.m.
