UIndy’s Adams Named GLVC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior guard Darius Adams (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur/Lincoln College) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Adams paced the Greyhounds to victories over King College and Mount Vernon Nazarene last week.

In the two wins, Adams averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. He shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from the three-point line and converted 13-of-14 free throw attempts.

UIndy topped host King, 92-82, on Monday behind Adams’ 24 points, five rebounds and five assists. He was 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line. Adams knocked down four consecutive three-point baskets in the second half to help the Greyhounds break open a close game.

On Saturday, Adams poured in a game-high 23 points on 6-of-14 shooting to help UIndy to a 108-74 win over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene. He was 9-of-10 from the three throw line and added six assists, four rebounds and four steals in the victory. Adams’ efforts helped the Greyhounds crack the century mark for the fourth time this season.

Adams leads the GLVC with 3.0 steals per game this season and also ranks fifth in the league in scoring (20.3) and 11th in assists per game (3.33). He is shooting 41.2 percent from the field and is adding 3.8 rebounds per contest.

UIndy (5-2, 0-1 GLVC) has won four of its last five contests and will return to action this weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott Holiday Classic hosted by Lynn University in Lakeland, Fla. The Greyhounds will face Barry on Saturday night and the host Fighting Knights on Sunday.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Chris Dowe, Drury’s Alex Hall, Lewis’ Dennis Thomas, Jr., Missouri-St. Louis’ Gerald Fulton, Quincy’s Tyler Burke and Southern Indiana’s C.J. Trotter.
