Prairie Stars Back to Action

SPRINGFIELD – After an 11 day break for final exams the Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team returns to action Saturday when it hosts Eureka at 3 p.m. This will begin a three-game homestand for the Prairie Stars that will conclude Jan. 4 against Southern Indiana.

In its last game, UIS tangled with second ranked Findlay, and held a lead for the first seven minutes of the contest. The Prairie Stars didn’t allow the Oilers to extend a lead over double digit until late into the game, but UIS finished on a 10-5 run.

For the season, junior Michael Fakuade is leading UIS on offense and defense with 17 points and 12 rebounds per game. Fakuade has also smacked 14 blocks and is shooting 57 percent from the field.
The Prairie Stars last nonconference opponent, Eureka is 0-8 this season and gave up a season 120 points to Minnesota State Mankato. The Red Devils lost their last time out to Robert Morris-Springfield Wednesday evening 78-52.

Individually for Eureka, Jordan Kindred is scoring over 19 points, which leads the team, but has turned the ball over 38 times. The Red Devils defensive effort is led by Josh Wagner, who is pulling down over eight rebounds per game.

Following the action Saturday, UIS will have 15 days off before it restarts GLVC play Sunday, Jan. 2 against Indianapolis.
