Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney senior right tackle Orion Matthies has earned his second All-American honor of the 2010 season.
Earlier this week, Matthies was voted a Daktronics All-America, making the second-team. Today,, the Associated Press Little All-America team was released and Matthies (Overton) was selected to the third-team.
The A.P. Little All-America team dates back to the early 1930's and includes players from NCAA Division II and III schools, as well as NAIA institutions.
Matthies is just the eighth UNK player to make this team, following defensive linemen Phil Gustafson ('73), center Jerry Scott ('80 & '81), kick returner Mike Smith ('96), running back Mike Miller ('02), kicker Henrik Juul-Nielsen ('02), receiver Richie Ross ('05) and center Jack Hiett ('09)
Other RMAC players selected to this A.P. squad include Colorado School of Mines defensive end Marc Schiechl (first-team) and Colorado State-Pueblo running back Jesse Lewis (third-team).
A four-year starter, Matthies was a unanimous All-RMAC pick this year and blocked for an offense that averaged 35 points and 445 yards per game.
