Millersville's Anderson Takes 14th at the NCAA Championships

Louisville, Ky. - Prior to Saturday's NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, Millersville redshirt sophomore Elicia Anderson said that her goal was to finish as an All-American. Goal accomplished.

Running in freezing temperatures and blizzard-like conditions, Anderson completed the Tom Sawyer Park 6K course in 21:43.5 to earn the first All-America honor of her career. She joined Priscilla Jennings as the second Marauder in as many years but just the third since 1999 to achieve the feat.

Anderson finished just ahead of Slippery Rock's Jennifer Harpp and less than a second behind Western State's Sarah Lyle. Shippensburg's Neely Spence captured the individual title with a time of 20:41.2. Spence finished nearly 15 seconds in front of the runner-up. Grand Valley State took the overall team championship.

Among runners from the PSAC, only Spence finished in front of Anderson.

She is the sixth Millersville runner to earn All-American status. Kellie Boozer (1988 and 1989) and Mary Zerby (1991 and 1992) finished in the top 40 twice. Her finish was the second-highest in school history. Only Jennings' eighth-place finish as a senior in 2010 was higher.
