Late Basket by Baudinet Lifts Saint Anselm To Fifth Straight Victory, 72-71, at Post University

Waterbury, Conn. (December 19) - Senior All-American candidate Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) hit the game winner with 4.6 seconds left to lift Saint Anselm to a 72-71 victory at Post University on Sunday afternoon. The win is the fifth straight for the Hawks, who are now idle for 11 days.

The Hawks are now off to at least an 8-1 start for the third time in the last seven seasons, including a 10-1 start in the 2008-2009 season and a 9-1 start in 2004-2005. Saint Anselm is also currently receiving votes in this week's NABC/Division II National Top 25 poll.

Post jumped out to a 26-19 lead with 7:19 left in the first half before the Hawks put together a 17-4 run that was started on a basket from freshman Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.) and capped by a Baudinet three for a 36-30 advantage. Still a six-point game late in the half, Spencer Smith knocked down a three for the Eagles late in the half for the 40-37 score at the break.

The Eagles started the second half as they did the first with an 18-5 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 55-45 with 13:47 remaining in the game. Saint Anselm continued the game of runs though and tied the score on a basket from Harris with 6:14 left and took the lead on another Harris hoop less than a minute later.

Saint Anselm held the lead for nearly the next six minutes and led 70-68 with 32 seconds left following a free throw from junior Jack Keough (Owego, N.Y.). Post wasn't done though and after Keough miss at the line, Cecil Stinson hit his second three-pointer of the game for the 71-70 lead with 16 seconds left, setting the stage for Baudinet's late-game heroics.

Both Baudinet and Harris finished with 25 points, along with a 12-rebound effort from Keough. Baudinet now has 1,531 career points and is just 14 points shy of moving into 10th place on the Saint Anselm all-time career scoring list.

Four Eagles finished in double figures in the loss, led by a 19-point effort from Smith. Post University drops to 5-5 overall with the defeat.

Saint Anselm is now idle until December 30th when the Hawks will play host to Bloomfield at Stoutenburgh Gym. Game time is set for 3 p.m., with the game available online at www.SaintAnselmHawks.tv.
