GC Baseball Ranked #4 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper recently released its 2011 Preseason Division II Rankings, and the Georgia College baseball team pulled down No. 4 slot.

On the strength of a 42-17 season, including Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Regular-Season and NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament titles, the Bobcats are ready to start the 2011 campaign. GC finished third in the country last year, coming a few runs away from competing for the National Championship.

National Champion University of Southern Indiana is No. 1, with UC-San Diego owning the second slot. Central Missouri University is one spot ahead of the Bobcats.

GC is tops among the five PBC teams listed. Columbus State University is No. 11, with Francis Marion University at No. 15. USC Aiken is No. 20, and North Georgia brought in a No. 35 ranking.

The 2011 campaign begins Feb. 4 at 3 p.m., when the Bobcats start the season at No. 5 University of Tampa, a fellow 2010 NCAA Division II World Series participant.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, back-to-back winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 10 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
