Four Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats on All-WVIAC Soccer Teams

Brian Taslov (Coraopolis, Pa.) and Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) garnered second-team honors, while Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) and Nolan Levine (McDonald, Pa.) were honorable mention selections to lead a group of four Mountain Cats who earned spots on 2010 WVIAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams.

WVIAC regular and post-season champion University of Charleston (WV) owned the top 2010 men's soccer player and coach according to voting by league coaches.  Sophomore midfielder Rob Vincent was the WVIAC Player of the Year, while Chad Duernberger took his second straight Coach of the Year award.  West Virginia Wesleyan midfield Matthew Brown earned WVIAC Freshman of the Year accolades.

Swope, a sophomore forward,  is a second-team all-conference choice for the second straight year.  Swope finished second on the Mountain Cat team in scoring with 14 points on six goals and two assists.  Taslov, a senior defender, was an Honorable Mention All-WVIAC performer in 2009.   Taslov anchored a Pitt-Johnstown back line that allowed just 26 goals in 17 matches this season.
Buchta and Levine made their first appearance on the all-conference list.  Buchta, a sophomore forward, paced Pitt-Johnstown in scoring with nine goals and two assists for 20 points.  Nationally, Buchta ranks 49th in goals per game (.60), 61st in total goals (9), and 71st in points per game.  Levine finished his red-shirt season in goal with a 5-7-0 overall record.  He currently ranks 31st in NCAA Division II in saves per game at 5.5 and 62nd in save percentage at .776.

Vincent is a key reason that Charleston is the top seed in this week's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.  The Liverpool, England sophomore paces the Golden Eagles with seven assists.  He has added seven goals and the 2009 WVIAC Freshman of the Year stands second for nationally-ranked Charleston with 21 points.

Brown leads NCAA Tournament-bound West Virginia Wesleyan with 16 points on the season.  The Whitby, England rookie is one of three Bobcats with a team-high five goals and he paces the club with six assists.  He is the first Bobcat to earn WVIAC Freshman of the Year honors since the award's creation in 1998.

Duernberger has guided Charleston to a 15-3-1 record and a No. 6 national ranking heading into the NCAA Tournament.  The former Charleston standout owns 38-18-3 record during his three seasons as the Golden Eagle head coach.  The 2009 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year has turned around a program that finished winless in the season prior to his arrival.
