Golden Eagles Respond to Quick Comet Start in 93-70 Victory

(Mayville, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team traveled to Mayville State University this afternoon to play the Comets in a non-conference contest. Mayville blasted out of the gates to a 12-0 lead but the Golden Eagle defense regrouped and went into halftime with a 43-38 lead. UMC came out in the second half and continued to take it to the Comets and added another 50 points to take the 90-73 victory.
 
Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) knocked down a team-high 25 points tonight and added five rebounds and two steals. Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) added a career-high 24 points and added five rebounds and dished two assists. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) and Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So., Rosemount, Minn.) earned the team’s first multi-player double-double of the season. Zabel scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Tyson earned her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
 
No Mayville State stats were available at release time.
 
Minnesota, Crookston advances to 2-0 on the season while Mayville State falls to 0-5 overall. The Golden Eagles travel to Barry University in Miami, Fla. for a non-conference game on Wednesday, November 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
