#3 Oilers Defeat Ohio Valley 85-63

The University of Findlay men’s basketball team, ranked third in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division II poll, defeated Ohio Valley University 85-63 on Friday, November 19 in Croy Gymnasium at the Findlay Tip-Off Classic. The victory gives the Oilers a perfect 3-0 record on the year and extends their regular season home winning streak to 92 games.

A big second half, something the Oilers have had in each of their first three games, was the difference in the game as Findlay out-scored the Fighting Scots 50-32 in the final period.

As a team, the Oilers shot 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field and drilled 8-of-17 (47.1%) shots from behind the three point line. They also forced 24 turnovers, which led to 32 Findlay points, and came away with 11 steals.

12 players scored for the Oilers in the game as senior guard Nathan Hyde and sophomore forward Jack Smith led a balanced attack with 13 points apiece.

Smith also added eight rebounds and two steals in the game.

Junior guard Kyle Caiola and sophomore guard Aaron Robinson chipped in 11 and ten points, respectively, while junior forward Rob Marsden and freshman forward Greg Kahlig scored eight apiece in the win.

Kahlig also added five rebounds, three steals and an assist.

The Oilers will be back in action again tomorrow against #19 St. Joseph’s College, who defeated Tiffin University by a score of 81-61 earlier in the evening.

Phillip Collins and Dayvon Sloan paced the team with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
