GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines men’s swimming & diving team is ranked 25th in the most recent CollegeSwimming.com / CSCAA Division II Poll released on Wednesday, Dec. 15th.
This season the men’s swimming & diving team has recorded 11 NCAA qualifying marks which were all met during the squad’s most recent meet: the Mesa State Invite in Grand Junction, Colo.
Andrew Zerwick and Aaron Miller each have three NCAA “B” cuts. Zerwick won all three events the 100 backstroke (51.98), 200 backstroke (57.16) and 200 freestyle (143:42) at the Mesa State Invite. Zerwick also set a pair of pool records with a time of 52.08 in the 100 and a time of 1:50.38 in the 200 backstroke. Miller won the 500 freestyle (4:38.90) and 1650 freestyle (16:18.61) with qualifying times in both events. Miller finished second in the 200 freestyle also with a time of 1:43.54 another NCAA qualifying time.
Matt Bisping swam NCAA “B” cuts in the prelims of the 100 (57.16) and 200 breaststroke (2:06.53) at the MSC Invite. The winner in both events he established a new pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.26. Siarhei Pilestki swam a “B” cut in the time trial for the 200 breaststroke he also had a qualifying time in the 200 IM winning the event with a time of 1:54.91. Daniel Peter won the 400 IM with a pool record and a time “B” cut time of 4:08.09.
Mines will host Southwestern University in a dual meet at the CSM Natatorium on Tuesday, January 4th at 3:00 pm. Those athletes that qualify will compete at the 2011 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships March 9th-12th in San Antonio, Texas at the Palo Alto Natatorium.
