Augustana's MacIver selected for Cactus Bowl

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Augustana defensive lineman Brady MacIver has accepted an invitation to play in the 2011 Cactus Bowl scheduled for Jan. 7, 2001, in Kingsville, Texas.  The game features the top 88 NCAA Division II seniors in the nation.

A native of Anoka, Minn., MacIver was a 2010 All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference South Division first team pick.  He was instrumental in helping the Vikings log the most successful season in school history.  In 2010, Augustana recorded a school-record 11 wins (three more than the previous record) and made their first playoff appearance since 1989. The Vikings also hosted and won its first playoff game by defeating No. 6 Grand Valley State on Nov. 27 at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.

MacIver recorded 48 tackles, including six for loss.  He also blocked one kick and broke up two passes.  The senior anchored a defensive unit that was the NSIC's best--allowing just 229.6 yards per game.

MacIver is the first Augustana player to be selected for the Cactus Bowl since 2003 when Jash Kayser and Matt Kender accepted invitations.

The Cactus Bowl Committee, comprised completely of volunteers, is responsible for all aspects of organization for the contest and net profits from the Cactus Bowl are donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Al Amin Temple of Corpus Christi will be involved in the Cactus Bowl pre-game preparation and game-day operations.
