Golden Rams’ Balanced Attack Overwhelms Marauders

West Chester, Pa. - West Chester attacked Millersville by land and by air Saturday at John A. Farrell Stadium. The Golden Rams threw for 305 yards and rushed for 302 in a 45-14 win over the Marauders.

Millersville (2-8, 0-7 PSAC East) forced a three-and-out on West Chester's (4-6, 4-3 PSAC East) first offensive possession, and Matt Sutjak (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) tallied his fifth interception of the season on the second, but it was all West Chester after that. The Golden Rams scored on seven of its next nine possessions.

Wide receiver Dan DePalma scored three times and totaled 180 yards receiving. His touchdowns came from 47, 68 and 32 yards. D'Andre Webb did most of the damage on the ground, totaling 140 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries.

Mike Jones (Middletown/Bishop McDevitt) led Millersville with 92 rushing yards on 21 carries. Jamal Smith (Camp Hill/Trinity), who entered the game needing 97 yards to set the school's single season record for receiving yards finished with 82 on five catches. He also scored his 11th receiving touchdown, leaving him two short of the school record with one game to play. It also moved him ahead of Kevin Cannon and into third place all-time with 23 career touchdown catches.

Despite Jones and Smith's efforts, Millersville punted the ball away on its first five possessions, and after the Golden Rams' first two drives came up empty, they scored on three in a row to build a 21-0 lead.

The Marauders scored with 6:24 left in the first half when Bill Shirk (Phoenixville/Phoenixville) found Smith for a 38-yard strike.

West Chester added a field goal at the end of the first half and tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter to build a 38-7 lead. Shirk scored Millersville's second touchdown on a one-yard rush 2:02 into the final period.

Shirk completed 12-of-18 passes by was sacked six times. He has been sacked 40 times this year and 16 times in the last three games.

The Marauders travel Clarion on Nov. 13 for the season finale. Game time is 1 p.m.
