Alexander Career-High Carries Griffins Past Lions

Philadelphia, PA – (12/9/2010) – Chestnut Hill College held a 34-31 lead at halftime behind the post play of sophomore forward Lindsay Alexander (Huntingdon Valley, PA) and senior center Cecelia Herald (Gaithersburg, MD). The Griffins never surrendered the lead in the second half and with a career-high 28 points from Alexander the claimed their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win of the season, 77-63.

Chestnut Hill College (3-5, 1-1) held a slight edge in rebounds (24-20) and shooting (35.5%-33.3%) to overcome nine first-half turnovers. Alexander and Herald combined for 21 points in the period; Alexander was 3-for-6 (50.0%) from the field with two buckets from long range (2-for-3, 66.7%), she also hit 4-of-5 (80.0%) from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Griffins extended their advantage over Georgian Court University (0-7, 0-3) to as many as 17, 73-56, with 2:38 left to play. Alexander finished 9-of-15 (60.0%) from the floor and 7-of-9 (77.8%) from the charity stripe for her career, scoring performance. She also recorded six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Herald totaled 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Three Lions finished in double figures; freshman guard Brittany Baker (Waldorf, MD) led the trio with 17 points and ten rebounds.

The women’s basketball team continues their CACC schedule with a trip to Goldey-Beacom College for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, December 11.
