Wheeling Jesuit's Pew Earns Fourth Weekly Honor

Jenna Pew became the first Wheeling Jesuit Volleyball player to receive WVIAC Player of the Week honors four times in a single season.

During the week of October 25-31, the 2010 Wheeling Jesuit Volleyball team became the second team in school history to sweep WVIAC regular season in 42-straight sets after defeating the University of Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan College. WJU also played the Atlantic Region rival, Shippensburg University, securing the win in three sets.

The team’s success also led to outstanding individual performances, including Jenna Pew’s history-making season as she collected her fourth WVIAC Player of the Week Award.

Opening the week against Charleston, Pew led the Lady Cardinals to their 13th conference win with nine kills, six digs, and five blocks in three sets. The freshman standout from Smithville, OH buried the nine kills on 13 attempts with one error, achieving a .615 hitting percentage.

Against West Virginia Wesleyan, she collected 10 kills, 15 assists, and eight digs while hitting .471. In addition, Pew added two blocks to her weekly total.

Pew continued to pound the ball into the ground against Shippensburg, accumulating a .435 hitting percentage. She finished the match with 10 kills to go along with four blocks and three digs.

At the end of the week, Pew’s resume was spectacular, compiling 29 kills, 17 assists, 17 digs, and 11 blocks. She only committed three hitting errors in 53 attempts which led to an amazing .491 hitting percentage.

Pew is currently ranked 6th in NCAA Division II for blocks per game with a 1.25 average. She also broke into the nation’s Top 20, ranking 18th among the Division II institutions with a .381 hitting percentage.
