FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University junior forward Liki (pronounced La-KEY) Turner has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

In Francis Marion’s three contests last week, Turner averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game as the Patriots went 2-1 to push their season mark to 5-1.  The 6-5 native of Richmond, Va., connected on 52.6 percent of his field goal attempts, made all three of his three-point attempts, and was 11-of-13 at the free throw line.

He registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 116-60 win over Morris College, scored 10 points with nine boards in an 87-78 victory over Shaw University, and then equaled his career high of 24 points (with eight rebounds) in a 96-84 loss to Wingate University on Saturday.

For the season, Turner is third in the PBC in scoring (18.3 ppg) and tied for third in rebounding (8.3 rpg).  He is shooting 55.1 percent from the field and is among the conference leaders in free throw percentage at 86.1 percent.

The Patriot men will open their Peach Belt Conference schedule on Wednesday at seventh-ranked USC Aiken (4-0).  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

The 3-0 FMU women will also open PBC play on Wednesday, taking on the USCA women (5-2) at 5:30 p.m. in the opening game of the doubleheader.  Both FMU and USCA were among the other teams receiving votes in last week’s USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

Francis Marion leads the all-time women’s series 45-19, including five straight wins, while the Patriot men lead their series with the Pacers 42-29.
