Jones Named New Haven Gridiron Club Top Offensive Player in 2010

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - University of New Haven football running back Victor Jones will be honored as the area's top offensive college football player by the New Haven Gridiron Club at the annual awards night December 9. Jones will receive the Jacunski Award, named after the longtime Yale assistant coach.

Teammates Desmond Anderson and Charlie Hatchett will also be honored as a defensive back and linebacker, respectively, at the dinner.

Jones helped lead the Chargers to an 8-2 record in 2010, including a 6-2 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference. Jones amassed 1,021 rushing yards on 201 attempts for 5.1 yards per carry. The junior also crossed the goalline 11 times in 2010. He earned All-Northeast-10 Conference First Team honors as well.

Anderson and Hatchett anchored the UNH defense with 136 combined tackles. Hatchett forced three fumbles and recorded five tackles-for-loss, while Anderson led the team and the conference with seven interceptions, tying the UNH single season mark.

The dinner will be at 7 p.m. at the Cascade Banquet Facility in Hamden, with a social hour at 6 p.m. Tickets, at $40 each, may be reserved by sending payment to the New Haven Gridiron Club, P.O. Box 32, New Haven 06501, by Wednesday. No tickets will be sold at the door.
