SAPC harriers earn top-20 finish at NCAA Southeast Regional

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s cross country team concluded its season with a 17th place finish out of 25 teams at the 2010 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at McAlpine Creek Park on Saturday morning.

Four SAPC seniors – all members of the 2008 Conference Carolinas Championship squad – completed their collegiate careers for the Royal Blue and White. The senior duo of James Walls (Bear Creek, N.C.) and Tommy Wilson (Salisbury, N.C.) both posted personal record times in their final endurance race.

Walls notched the Knights fastest 10k time of 34 minutes and 12 seconds at McAlpine Creek Park. Walls finished 59th out of 164 total competitors. Walls was SAPC’s fastest harrier in all seven races in 2010.

Wilson also posted a PR performance by crossing the finish line in 36:10.

Senior Doug Holt (Haddonfield, N.J.) finished between Walls and Wilson with a time of 35:45. Classmate Josh Pickett (Asheville, N.C.) clocked in at 36:49 to wrap up racing for the quartet of seniors.

SAPC freshman Caleb Mitcler (Green Mountain, N.C.) completed the Knights scoring with a 10k benchmark time of 44:36.

St. Andrews finished ahead of four South Atlantic Conference (SAC) schools, three Conference Carolinas institutions and one Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member. Host and No. 7 nationally ranked Queens University of Charlotte won the team title.
