Rockets blast UAA women in exhibition

TOLEDO, Ohio (Nov. 4) – Junior forward Hanna Johansson had 12 points and 11 rebounds Thursday as the Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team suffered a 63-37 loss to host Toledo at Savage Arena.

The Seawolves, ranked No. 13 in the preseason NCAA Division II poll, also got six points from senior wing Nikki Aden as they suffered their second exhibition defeat to a Division I team in three days.

The Rockets, the defending Mid-American Conference West Division champions, were led by 13 points and eight rebounds from forward Melissa Goodall.

Unlike their loss at Indiana on Tuesday – in which the Seawolves led 28-27 at halftime – Thursday’s game was never close as the Rockets jumped to a 9-0 advantage and led 34-12 at the break.

Freshman guard Kylie Burns had five points for UAA, while sophomore forward Alysa Horn grabbed six rebounds.

The Seawolves return to Anchorage before traveling next week to Anaheim, Calif., to begin the regular season at Disney’s Div. II Tip-Off Classic. UAA will open against 11th-ranked and West Region rival UC San Diego on Nov. 12.
