ROCK HILL, S.C. — Lenoir-Rhyne University forward Nicky Matthews is this week’s South Atlantic Conference men's soccer Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
Matthews, a junior from Bradford, England (University of Teeside), recorded a hat trick in each of the Bears' South Atlantic Conference victories last week. He had three goals in a 5-0 victory over Catawba on Thursday, and had three goals in a 4-1 victory over Tusculum on Saturday.
His first goal against the Indians at home proved to be the game-winner while his first score versus the Pioneers on the road tied the contest at one and was the first of four goals for the Bears.
Matthews leads the team this in goals (12) and points (26) this season for Lenoir-Rhyne (10-7, 5-4).
