Foder, Buckley Repeat Selections to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team

EAST STROUDSBURG – Seniors Lindsay Foder and Kailyn Buckley represent East Stroudsburg University on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women’s soccer team for the second straight year, it was announced Tuesday.

Foder (Saylorsburg/Pleasant Valley) was named to the second team at forward after earning first team recognition last season, while Buckley (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) is on the third team at forward and is one of three student-athletes in school history to earn career three Academic All-District nods.

The seniors helped the Warriors to three straight PSAC playoff appearances from 2007-09 during their careers and were starters on the 2008 team that won the first NCAA Tournament game in school history.

Foder graduated in three years with a 4.0 grade-point average as a Speech Pathology major and is in her first semester as a graduate student in the same academic program. She scored her 21st career goal in the Warriors’ final game of the season last Saturday and is sixth in school history in goals, assists (16) and points (58) in an ESU uniform.

She has been named to two All-PSAC teams as a sophomore and junior and was an All-Region selection both years as well. She was recognized on the Daktronics (sports information directors) team in 2008 after posting nine goals and seven assists on ESU’s NCAA Tournament team, including two goals and two assists in four postseason games. She was on the NSCAA All-Region team in 2009 when she had seven goals and six assists.

Buckley, a Physical Therapy major with a 3.88 GPA, was on the Academic All-District second team at forward last season and the third team at midfield in 2008. She is also a two-time All-PSAC selection, earning recognition after her freshman and junior seasons, and was ESU’s second-leading scorer with eight goals and six assists last year.

She started 79 of the Warriors’ 80 games during her career and is 10th at ESU in points (45), tied for ninth in assists (13) and scored 16 goals in her four seasons. She had three goals and five assists as a full-time starter as a freshman and also scored a goal in the Warriors’ 4-0 win vs. West Virginia Wesleyan in the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore.

Buckley joins Katie Horst (field hockey, 1997-99) and Danny Drago (men’s soccer, 2007-08, 10) as the only three-time Academic All-District selections in school history. Drago was named to the men’s first team on Tuesday.

The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The college division of District II covers all Division II and III institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.

ESU has placed 10 student-athletes on their respective Academic All-District teams in each of the last three seasons and led the PSAC in 2007-08 and 2008-09. The PSAC landed 11 of the 36 selections on the women’s soccer teams this season.
