Haywood's Big Game not enough for Lady Broncos

Lenoir-Rhyne tops FSU 80-70 in women’s basketball


HICKORY, NC – Preseason All-CIAA selection Tiffany Haywood scored 19 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, but Lenoir-Rhyne managed to defeat Fayetteville State 80-70 in women’s basketball on Monday night.

LaQuasha Jordan (Jr., Greenville, NC) added 18 points, making three 3-pointers, while Shequita Manning (Jr., Capital Hights, MD) chipped in 10 points for the Lady Broncos, who fell to 0-2 on the young season.

Cameron Sealy led all players with 31 points to pace Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1). Whitney Culler added 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds while Whitney Brinkley chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

Fayetteville State held the Lady Bears to just 42 percent shooting from the floor for the game, but Lenoir-Rhyne was much better in the second half, hitting on 48 percent of their shots from the field. The Lady Broncos, who also forced 23 turnovers, trailed just 38-34 at the half.

Fayetteville State hosts Barton College on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Felton J. Capel Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
