Graves Selected LSC North Academic Player of the Year

Five Hounds made LSC North All-Academic

RICHARDSON, TEXAS — Senior offensive tackle Karlton Graves (Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood HS) from the Eastern New Mexico University football team has been selected as the Lone Star Conference North Division Academic Player of the Year and was among five Greyhounds chosen to the LSC North All-Academic team.

The All-Academic Team is selected by the league's sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible), completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for his/her entire collegiate career.

Graves, a political science major, is three-time Academic All-District and LSC All-Academic selection. As a senior, he garnered both first and second team All-Lone Star Conference North Division laurels, as a left tackle and as a deep snapper. His contributions have helped the Greyhounds transition from the triple-option offense, used during his freshman season to the wide-open spread offense, for the last three seasons. Eastern has reduced its sacks given up by almost one per game, while establishing a productive running game, due to Graves’ leadership.

Nathan Uland (Sr., LB, Denton, Texas/Ryan HS), a finance major with a minor in business management, also has been a three-time Academic All-District and LSC All-Academic selection. He tied for 28th in the nation in tackles and finished third in the Lone Star Conference. Averaging nearly a full tackle for a loss per game, he tied for 14th in the LSC in that category. Uland made 15 tackles including eight solos against nationally ranked Midwestern State and reached double figures in three other games.

Stefan Mills (So., RB, Clovis, N.M./Clovis HS), a mathematics major, rushed for 74 yards and scored a touchdown in the Greyhounds win over Southeastern Oklahoma. He also registered 84 receiving yards against nationally ranked Midwestern State.

Chase Kyser, (So., WR, Roswell, N.M./Goddard HS), an education major, caught 43 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns. At LSC North champion, East Central, he caught six passes for 102 yards. Kyser hauled in a touchdown pass against four consecutive LSC opponents.
