FSU Claims D-II Victory in Savannah Tourney

Broncos place second overall in 9-team Tiger Fall Invitational

SAVANNAH, GA. – After two second-place finishes in their first two tournaments, the Fayetteville State golf team won the Division-II portion of the Tiger Fall Invitational hosted by Savannah State over the weekend.

The Broncos finished second among all teams in the tournament (behind Bethune-Cookman’s 308-304-612), which was played at Henderson Golf Course and featured nine teams across Division 1 and II. Led by John Cole’s two-day total of 154 – second among the D-II golfers as the Fayetteville freshman nearly nabbed his third victory in three tournaments this season – the Broncos finished with an aggregate score of 636 (314-322) on the 6,650-yard, par-71 course.

Cole (78-76) was clipped by one shot by Winston-Salem State’s Zack Sheets (76-77-153). But the Rams finished well behind the Broncos, who also got scores from Lincoln Jackson (Jr., Southern Pines, NC; 81-78-159) to finish eighth overall, and Michael Wallace (Jr., Fayetteville, NC; 78-82-160), who finished ninth overall. William McClure (Jr., Fayetteville, NC; 77-86-163) was 13th overall to give the Broncos’ their D-II winning score.

Out of the CIAA, Virginia State 333-332-665) was fourth overall and Winston-Salem State (336-337-673) was sixth overall.

Bethune Cookman’s Willie Mack III easily won the tournament, topping teammate Alex Clapp by eighth shots after firing rounds of 70 and 71 for a 1-under-par 141.
