NSIC Offensive Player of the Week
#20 Jon Wolf (QB, 6-3, 181, Fr., Oak Forest, Ill. / Oak Forest HS)
Minnesota State University, Mankato
Jon Wolf passed for three and rushed for another to total four touchdowns as MSU earned a 53-7 victory over Southwest Minnesota State Saturday afternoon. Wolf rushed 13 times for 101 yards and a touchdown and completed 8-of-14 passes for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Wolf teamed with junior running back Taylor Brookins to become the seventh duo in school history to each rush for over 100 yards as Brookins added 116 yards on the ground.
NSIC Co-Defensive Players of the Week
#13 DeShon Benton (LB, 6-0, 230, Jr., Modesto, Calif.)
University of Mary
DeShon Benton made 13 tackles, including eight solo stops, as U-Mary upset Winona State 21-19. Benton had 2.5 tackles for loss, including a sack, and recovered a fumble as the Marauders improve to 3-7 on the season.
#43 Benjamin Perry (LB, 5-11, So., New Port Richey, Fla. / Ridgewood HS)
Wayne State College
Benjamin Perry was named Egg Bowl MVP with a game-high 15 tackles to lead a Wayne State defense that held Augustana to just 201 yards of total offense in Saturday’s 26-14 win over the 7th-ranked Vikings. Twelve of Perry’s 15 tackles were solo stops and he also forced a fumble that led to a Wildcat score in the third quarter.
NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week
#44 Randy Weich (P, 6-2, Jr., Lincoln, Neb. / Pierce HS / Highlands CC)
Wayne State College
Randy Weich averaged 50.4 yards on five punts, including a school record 95 yard punt, to help Wayne State hand #7 Augustana its first loss of the season Saturday 26-14 in Wayne. Weich’s punts in the first half pinned Augustana deep in their own territory which led to Wayne State getting great field position on two first half scoring drives. Weich’s 53 yard punt pinned Augustana at their own three yard line and another punt of 30 yards placed the Vikings at their own 13 yard line. Weich tops the NSIC in punt average at 43.1 yards per kick this season for the 6-4 Wildcats.
