BOCA RATON, Fla. – Lynn University’s women’s basketball team is back in action at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center following a week lay-off. The Fighting Knights get a test when they host Benedict College, a 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifier, on Saturday, December 4, at 2 p.m.
Chelsea Patterson has been a force on the offensive end for LU (2-3). Since beginning the season with a 2-of-14 shooting performance against Northern Kentucky, the senior point guard has shot a sizzling 58.5% from the field and 78.3% from the free-throw line while averaging an eye-popping 21.8 points per game. Patterson leads the Sunshine State Conference at 18.8 ppg.
She has been getting help from sophomore Amanda Schultz. A SSC All-Freshman Team selection a year ago, Schultz is second on the squad at 11.3 ppg but leads the Blue & White, and is fifth in the conference, with a 55% shooting percentage.
Defensively, Quanisha Dixon and Patterson are among the league leaders in steals, averaging 3.2 swipes per contest. Marquis Lee has been a force on the glass for the Knights as she is fifth at 8.0 while Tashina Bailey is tied for third in blocks at 2.0 swats per game.
Benedict (3-1) has slacked little since winning last year’s Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and earning a bid to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. The Lady Tigers arrive in Boca on a three-game winning streak following its season-opening loss to Eckerd. Lynn will have to contend with a deep BC squad that saw its sixth-man, Ashlee Jones, earn SIAC Player of the Week accolades for a 20-point performance against Kentucky State.
