Flagler Volleyball weekly preview

The Flagler volleyball team has won its last five matches and 14-out-of-its-last-16 after defeating USC Aiken and Lander this past weekend. The Saints are 21-7 overall and 10-1 in the Peach Belt. 

Meg Weathersby had a double-double in both matches totaling 29 kills and 32 digs. She leads the conference in kills per set (4.04) and is fifth in hitting percentage (.281). Dianna Craine totaled 26 kills while Olivia Snipes tallied 38 assists. USC Aiken was held to a .065 hitting percentage while Lander didn’t do much better (.099). 

Flagler will play its final three conference matches this week on the road. On Nov. 3, Armstrong Atlantic hosts Flagler. The Saints swept the Pirates on Sept. 29 as Laura Beth Lancaster totaled nine kills. Rebecca Royal tallied a match-high 19 assists. Casey Gnann paced the defense with a match-high 12 digs. 

Amanda Jones led AASU with nine kills while Torrie Bevolo had nine digs. Armstrong Atlantic was held to a .043 hitting percentage. 

The Pirates have won seven-straight matches and are 17-11 overall and 6-5 in the Peach Belt. Jessica Santaniello has tallied a team-high 264 kills. Megan Pando has amassed 827 assists. She is fifth in the conference in assists per set (8.53). Bevolo paces the Pirates defense with 307 digs. 

Flagler’s road trip continues on Nov. 5 when they face UNC Pembroke. The Saints dropped the Lady Braves in three sets on Oct. 1 as Weathersby tallied a match-high nine kills, six digs and three total blocks. Sophie Meyer added six kills with a .455 hitting percentage. Royal tallied a team-high 17 assists. Gnann and Jillian Unitas collected 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

Rachel Young led UNCP with seven kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Heather Bolwerk tallied a match-high 20 assists while Marissa Baker paced the Lady Braves defense with a match-high 17 digs.

UNC Pembroke has lost its last two matches and is 18-10 overall and 5-6 in the Peach Belt. Rebecca Morgan leads the team with 232 kills. She is sixth in the conference in kills per set (2.67). Bolwerk has collected 825 assists. She is sixth in the Peach Belt in assists per set (8.17). Baker paces the Lady Braves defense with 416 digs.

Flagler concludes the week at Francis Marion on Nov. 6. The Saints swept the Patriots in three sets on Oct. 2 as Lancaster led Flagler with 11 kills and a .526 hitting percentage. Weathersby added 11 kills while Royal had 18 assists. 

Riley Forester recorded a team-high seven kills for the Patriots. Kelsie Deaton collected nine digs and Nicole Bennett tallied 20 assists.

Francis Marion has lost three-straight matches and is 14-13 overall and 3-8 in the conference. Forrester leads the Patriots with 224 kills while Bennett has a team-high 828 assists. She is second in the Peach Belt in assists per set (9.98). Deaton paces FMU’s defense with 464 digs. She records 5.10 digs per set, second-best in the conference.
