Golden Falcons Force 32 Turnovers In Non-League Home Win
RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College women’s basketball team jumped out to a 40-13 halftime lead en route to a 75-46 non-conference women’s basketball victory over visiting Washington Adventist University on Monday evening at Job Gym.
Felician (2-1) turned in its second consecutive strong defense effort, holding Washington Adventist to 24-percent shooting from the floor and forcing 32 Shock turnovers. Senior forward Quay Baskerville (Hartford, CT) led the Golden Falcons with 17 points and nine rebounds and junior center Jessica Ford (Jersey City, NJ) added 13 points and four blocks.
The Golden Falcons scored the game’s first nine points, but WAU (0-4) pulled to within 17-13 with 10 minutes, 23 seconds, remaining in the opening period on a three-point play by Angelica Nevaraz (Hagerstown, MD). But the Shock would not score again in the half, as Felician put together a 23-0 run heading into the intermission. The Golden Falcons led by as many as 35 points on three occasions in the second half.
Felician put four scorers in double figures. Freshman Jacquel Saunders (Trenton, NJ) finished with 11 points, and classmate Ashley Morris (West Orange, NJ) scored 10 points with seven rebounds. Vanessa Rice (Suitland, MD) came off the bench to produce 18 points and nine rebounds to pace the Shock. Felician, which committed 26 turnovers, held a second consecutive opponent to under 25 percent shooting after defeating Saint Anselm College, 46-31, on Saturday.
