CCAA Announces 2010 Women's Volleyball All-Conference Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (Nov. 18) – Cal State San Bernardino, which captured its fifth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title, had a league-high tying five players named to the 2010 All-CCAA team, including a conference-high tying three first-team selections, it was announced on Thursday.

Junior middle blocker Samantha Middleborn, who helped Cal State San Bernardino to a 25-2 overall record, including a 21-1 conference mark, became the sixth Coyotes player to earn Most Valuable Player of the Year honors and third in the last four years.

Chico State outside hitter Alex Shurtz was named Freshman of the Year, while freshman Denise DeVine of Cal State Dominguez Hills was selected Newcomer of the Year. Jim Spagle, who guided Cal State East Bay to program-best 20-7 overall record, was named Coach of the Year. The Pioneers compiled a 15-7 conference mark and tied UC San Diego for second place in the CCAA.

Joining Middleborn on the first team were teammates Jane Chafeh (senior, outside hitter) and Nicole Moore (senior outside hitter). UC San Diego was represented on the first team by junior setter Roxanne Brunsting, junior outside hitter Katie Condon and sophomore middle blocker Julia Freidenberg.

Cal State L.A. placed two players (Zuzana Cizova and Marquis Mora) on the first team, while Rheann Fall of Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State East Bay’s Roxanne Neely, Ally Sather of Sonoma State and Lianne Vicchio of Cal State Stanislaus rounded out the first team.
