Gannon's Cullen and Sazama Named to 2010 Daktronics All-Region Team

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon’s Kara Cullen (Marstons Mills, Mass. / Barnstable) and Lauren Sazama (St. Louis, Mo. / Oakville) have been named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Volleyball team. Both Cullen and Sazama were second-team selections as announced Tuesday afternoon.

Cullen was previously named to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region All-Tournament team. The junior averaged 2.53 kills, 1.07 blocks and 0.34 digs pet set this season. She ranked third among PSAC players in hitting percentage (.324) and fourth in blocks per set (1.07).

The Marstons Mills, Mass., native led the team in total blocks (103) and finished third in kills (243). The junior now ranks 6th on Gannon’s all-time block assists list with 295 in her career.

Sazama was previously named to the All-PSAC Western Division first team. She finished second in the conference in kills per set (3.69). The sophomore was the PSAC leader and 12th nationally in aces pet set (0.58).

Sazama averaged 3.69 kills, 0.58 aces, 2.89 digs and 0.26 assists per set. She was the team leader in total kills (387) and aces (61) and second in digs (303). Sazama recorded 12 double-doubles on the year. After two seasons at Gannon, Sazama’s career pace of 0.66 aces per set is more than double the current all-time mark (0.31) .

Gannon’s season came to an end with a 20-10 record. The Lady Knights finished fourth in the PSAC, falling to eventual champion Clarion in the PSAC tournament quarterfinals. The program also recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons and back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament appearances for the first time since 1995.
