Alabama-Huntsville men's soccer falls to West Florida in GSC Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. - In a rematch of the 2009 Gulf South Conference Championship game, the Alabama-Huntsville (4-13-0) men's soccer team fell 5-0 to West Florida (13-4-0) in the opening round of the 2010 GSC Tournament at the Brosnaham Park in Pensacola, Fla.

The top-seeded Argonauts took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of the contest when UWF's Frank Cope hit a quick one-touch pass to Matthew Aldred, who tapped the ball in for West Florida.  UWF increased their margin just less than four minutes later when Daniel Martini scored for the Argos at 21:06.

The 2-0 lead carried into the half for West Florida when Martini found the back of the net again at 49:54 to make give the Argos a three-goal cushion.

A foul in the box by a Charger defender led to game's fourth goal as Stephen Munoz netted a penalty kick at 53:13 for UWF.

UWF's Andre Verardi rounded out the scoring with a marker in the 83rd minute to make it a 5-0 contest.

UAH senior keeper Tyler Earley (Norman, Okla.) set an all-time school record of career minutes played during the contest surpassing Emmanuel Amaefule's 5,241.  The veteran now owns the mark with 5,348 minutes played. Earley also finishes his career as the UAH career leader in NCAA games played with 62.

Earley took the loss in net for UAH making eight saves while UWF's Elliott Purdom picked up the win with a three-save effort.

With the loss the Chargers finish the 2010 season at 4-13-0.
