2010 GSC Football Weekly

The GSC Title and NCAA post-season hopes are on the line as the 2010 GSC Football regular season wraps up this week.

The ninth and final GSC-TV LIVE Game of the Week kicks things off this Thursday night when West Alabama hosts No. 7 Valdosta State.  VSU clinched at least a share of the Conference Crown last week and the Blazers can sew up the outright Title with a victory over the Tigers.  Also on the line for Valdosta State is its No. 2 regional ranking, which would result in a First Round bye in next week’s NCAA Playoffs.

Arkansas-Monticello also takes the field on Thursday night, traveling to Division I-FCS South Alabama.  UAM is the second GSC team in two weeks to face USA after Henderson State fell this past Saturday, 37-31.

Three teams will have their eyes on the television on Thursday night as Delta State, North Alabama and Henderson State need a VSU loss to have a chance at a share of the GSC Crown (the Conference does not break first-place ties in football).

Although the Blazers’ result is important, UNA and HSU can ill afford to look past Saturday’s opponents.  No. 15 North Alabama journeys to Harding, while Henderson State entertains West Georgia.  UNA is ranked No. 4 in the region, while HSU is No. 10.  Delta State has completed league play, but the No. 5 regionally ranked Statesmen travel to NAIA Lambuth in a game that does count in the regional rankings.

Southern Arkansas hosts Ouachita Baptist in an in-state battle versus teams seeking to end the year on a positive note.  Completing Saturday’s five-game slate is Arkansas Tech which returns home to face MIAA Southwest Baptist.
