Lapimaa is 34th in the nation and Flyers are 7th in Midwest Region.
Romeoville, Ill. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced on Tuesday (Nov. 9) that Lewis University redshirt junior Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) is the No. 1 ranked singles player and the Flyers are seventh overall in the Midwest Region, according to the preseason rankings.
Lapimaa, who owns a career singles record of 60-13, is also ranked 34th nationally.
On the doubles side, senior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboltschule/Missouri Valley) and redshirt junior Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) are fourth in the region. Pestinger and Irdoja teamed up together at the ITA Regional Men’s Tennis Championships and advanced to the semifinals this past fall.
“It is really awesome to get into the preseason rankings,” Lewis head men’s tennis coach Brett Bridel said. “I believe that (the national rankings) are a reflection of how our program is building and moving in the right direction.
“As long as we continue to work hard, stay focused and remain together as a team, we will keep moving forward.”
Lewis opens the spring campaign on February 11th, as they welcome Wayne State to the Challenge Fitness Club in Lockport, Ill.
