#13 GVSU to Host Northwood in GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State will begin 2010 postseason play by hosting Northwood on Thursday night (Nov. 11) in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The Lakers clinched their third GLIAC North Division title in the last four years with a pair of wins last weekend, one of which was a 3-0 sweep over Northwood. GVSU has won 15 consecutive matches and moved up in the national rankings to #13 in the country.

Entering the conference tournament as the league's #2 seed, Grand Valley State will host #7 Northwood for the second time in less than a week. Last Friday (Nov. 5), the Lakers dispatched of NU in a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-14, 25-18) that saw GVSU race out to a 20-4 lead in the first set of the match. Grand Valley State finished the regular season with a 21-5 record and a 17-2 mark in conference play, while the Timberwolves were 13-13 overall and 10-9 in the GLIAC. In the earlier meeting on Sept. 17 in Midland, Northwood won the second and third sets to take a commanding 2-1 lead before GVSU rallied to win the fourth and fifth sets for the road victory.

Here are the other three GLIAC Quarterfinal matches being played on Thursday night:

#8 Ashland at #1 Hillsdale

#5 Ferris State at #4 Wayne State

#6 Tiffin at #3 Northern Michigan

All four quarterfinal matches will be played at 7:00 p.m. The semifinals and finals will be held at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday-Sunday (Nov. 13-14). Here is the semifinals and final schedule:

Semifinal #1 (Saturday - 5:00 p.m.): Winner of Ashland/Hillsdale vs. Winner of Ferris State/Wayne State

Semifinal #2 (Saturday - 7:30 p.m.): Winner of Tiffin/Northern Michigan vs. Winner of Northwood/Grand Valley State

GLIAC Championship (Sunday - 4:00 p.m.): Winner of Semifinal #1 vs. Winner of Semifinal #2
