Pairings Finalized for 2010 SSC Men's Soccer Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. - With all regular-season games in the books, the pairings have been solidified for the 2010 Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Championship. Barry will be the top seed and will host the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 5, and finals on Sunday, Nov. 7. The quarterfinal round will be contested Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the site of the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.

The University of Tampa will host Nova Southeastern University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pepin Stadium. Tickets will be available at the gate for $8 (adults) and $5 (senior citizens and students).

The top six teams in the final SSC regular-season standings earn bids to the championship. Teams are awarded three points for each conference win and one point for each tie.

Both Barry (10-2-3, 6-1-1 SSC) and Rollins (11-3-2, 6-1-1 SSC) tallied 19 points to share the SSC regular-season championship. The teams played to a scoreless tie in their regular-season meeting. Barry gained the tiebreaker and the No. 1 seed with a big 5-0 win over Lynn Sunday evening. The offensive outburst gave the Bucs a plus-10 goal differential in SSC matches. The second-seeded Tars posted a plus-eight goal differential in conference contests. Both squads will enjoy a quarterfinal bye compliments of their top seeds.

Florida Tech (7-6-2, 4-3-1 SSC) and Tampa (11-6-1, 4-3-1 SSC) both accumulated 13 points in the standings. The teams battled to a 1-1 tie in their regular-season meeting. Florida Tech earned the No. 3 seed with a plus-six goal differential in its SSC matches. Tampa, which secured the No. 4 seed, recorded a plus-three goal differential in conference play.

Nova Southeastern (8-5-2, 4-4 SSC) claimed the No. 5 seed with 12 points. Saint Leo (9-5, 3-5 SSC) locked up the final tournament spot with nine points. Both the Lions and Florida Southern compiled nine points, but Saint Leo gained the advantage by beating the Moccasins 3-2 in the teams' regular-season meeting.

In Tuesday's quarterfinals, No. 3 Florida Tech will host No. 6 Saint Leo. No. 4 Tampa will entertain No. 5 Nova Southeastern. The winners of those matches will advance to play Barry and Rollins in Miami Shores on Friday. Exact times for all matches will be announced as soon as they are finalized.
