Johnson Earns 4th GSC Weekly Award

Senior Lead UWF to Two Victories

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of West Florida senior volleyball player Katie Johnson has been named Gulf South Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today. The award is the 4th GSC Player of the Week honor that the Tallahassee native has garnered in 2010.

Johnson was a key cog in UWF’s 2-0 week against non-conference competition. On Tuesday against Spring Hill, Johnson blasted nine kills and hit .438 in a 3-0 sweep of Spring Hill College. On Saturday, Johnson led all players with 11 kills in a sweep of regionally-ranked Saint Leo.

For the week, the senior tallied 20 kills and 17 digs while hitting .350 in two matches.

Johnson joins Patricia Gandolfo, Naiara Fernandes and Chelsea Wilhoite as the only Argonauts players to win four GSC Player of the Week awards. Johnson and Gandolfo are the only two Argonauts to win four GSC weekly awards in one season.

Johnson and the Argonauts (25-6, 9-1 GSC) host the 2010 GSC Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Friday in Pensacola. UWF will face Henderson State in the quarterfinal round on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
