UT A Recipient of NCAA Game Environment Award

INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa was announced as a winner for its "ideas that work" submission during the 2010 NCAA Division II Game Environment Award of Excellence contest. 11 institutions were selected as winners, each receiving $500 to use towards future game environment initiatives on campus.

This marks the second win in three years of this particular "Best in Conference" award for 2010 NCAA Division II Game Environment Award of Excellence contest.

"Our goal was to create theme nights for home games that included the UT community and an outside charitable organization that would attract attention for our game and provide community outreach," says associate athletic director for marketing Gil Swalls. "I am happy for both UT Athletics and the Tampa Humane Society that this Score A Pet event met our goal and was recognized by NCAA II."

Melissa Chipchack, Amber Molidor and Kelsie Cubit were the team leaders in this theme night, in the fall of 2009 in a men's soccer game versus Lynn University. In addition to the team leaders, the entire marketing team participated.

"I really appreciate our student athletic marketing staff for developing and executing some great ideas," says Swalls.

The overall winner will be announced during the 2011 NCAA Convention at the opening of the business session.
