UIndy and USI Visit the TRAC

SPRINGFIELD – After Wednesday’s heartbreaker, the Illinois-Springfield women’s basketball team returns to action Sunday when it welcomes Indianapolis to the TRAC for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. The Prairie Stars will then stay home Tuesday evening, as Southern Indiana visits at 5:30 p.m.

In Wednesday’s game, UIS was led by junior Bailey Beale and freshman Megan Bergerud, who each had 13 points, while four Prairie Stars grabbed a team-high three rebounds. Also in the game, senior Paulina Pogorzelski matched her career-high with three steals.

Pogorzelski continues to lead the Prairie Star offense, as she pours in 13 points a game, while Beale and Bergerud follow at 12.4 and 11 points per contest respectively. Pogorzelski and Bergerud also clean the glass for UIS, as the duo combines for 14 rebounds per game,

Sunday’s opponent, Indianapolis has been off since Dec. 19 when it fell to Tampa 70-53. The Greyhounds have lost 4-of-5 after starting the season at 4-0, as their last win was over Florida Southern, 78-60, Dec. 18.

Leading the Greyhounds is Samantha Meissel, who is scoring 17.9 points per game and nearly pulling down five rebounds. Also in double figures for UIndy is Katie Lyons, who is averaging 10 points per game and is shooting a team-best 55 percent from the field.

Southern Indiana this season is 5-5 and is 2-4 in its last six games, as it dropped a game Thursday night against Michigan Tech. However, the Screaming Eagles are also 0-3 away from the Physical Activates Center this season.

For USI, Ellen Young and Amie Newhart top the scoring at 12.9 and 10.4 points per game. Young is also cleaning the glass for the Eagles, as she is pulling down six rebounds a contest.
