Prairie Stars Back After Holiday Layoff

SPRINGFIELD – After two weeks off for the holidays, the Illinois-Springfield men’s basketball team welcomes Indianapolis and Southern Indiana to the TRAC for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games. The Prairie Stars play the Greyhounds Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and Tuesday they host USI for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

UIS is coming off of a 95-52 victory over Eureka, Dec. 18, where senior Brandon Farmer led the way with 16 points. Junior Michael Fakuade, meanwhile, continues his impressive streak of five straight double-doubles, as he added 14 points and 10 rebounds against the Red Devils.

Leading the way for the Prairie Stars is Fakuade, who is averaging 16 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 60 percent from the field. Junior Lester Hart and Farmer are also scoring in doubles figures for UIS, as they score 11 and 10 points per game respectively.

The Greyhounds have won four straight since dropping their GLVC opener to Northern Kentucky, 87-69. UIndy is also 2-1 away from the Indiana state capital, with its lone loss at NKU.

Individually for UIndy, Darius Adams is scoring just over 20 points a game, while three others are also in double figures. DeWann Squires leads UIndy with five rebounds per game, while the team pulls down 35 boards per game.

USI has opened the season with a 9-1 mark, dropping its only game to No. 1 ranked Bellarmine, 69-60. Since the loss, the Eagles have won four straight and defeated Harris-Stowe and St. Catherine in their last two games.

This season for USI, CJ Trotter leads the offense at 16.6 points per game, while Mohamed Ntumba averages 13 points and eight rebounds and Isaac McClure is also in double figures for the Screaming Eagles, as he puts in 10 points.
