LAREDO, Tex.--Bellarmine University used a strong second half and outstanding efforts from Kylee Hamilton and Lauren Jones to down the host Texas A&M International Dustdevils 92-79 tonight in the Kinesiology Building.
The Knights (6-4) were down 43-38 at the half, but shot 59.3 percent in the second half to come back for the 13-point victory behind a career-best 27 points from Hamilton and 24 from Jones. Bellarmine also had a season-low 12 turnovers in recording their sixth victory of the season. Texas A&M International was led by Nikkiti Scott, who came off the bench to score 20 points.
The Dustdevils (3-10) took advantage of the Knights' poor shooting and were up by as many as 14 points as Bellarmine managed to hit just 13 of 36 shots (31.6 percent) in the opening period. However, the Knights closed the half on a 9-0 run to get within five at the break.
Bellarmine made the comeback complete just 4:03 into the second half when a Jalissa Chatlos layup gave the Knights their first lead since 12:28 mark of the first half. Bellarmine went ahead to stay on a pair of Chelsea Hawkins free throws with 14:43 remaining.
In the second period, Bellarmine shot a blistering 59.3 percent and made five of nine 3-pointers. The Knights were even deadlier at the free throw line, where they salted the victory away by making 17 of 18 second half attempts.
Bellarmine now gets a long break before resuming conference play on Jan. 2 at Lewis University.
