Stephanie Lowery Named to Daktronics All-America Team

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – Stephanie Lowery was selected as a Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer First Team All-American, announced Wednesday afternoon.  Joining Lowery on the First Team was Shakira Duncan of West Florida, the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year.  It was the second straight year Duncan has garnered the award.

Lowery was an instrumental part of Columbus State’s success this season breaking several school records.  The junior led the Peach Belt Conference in points (43), goals scored (19) and game-winning goals (seven).  Her points and goals scored totals are both single-season records at CSU.  She closed out the season on a tear scoring at least one goal in seven straight games before the streak came to an end against Lenoir-Rhyne in the NCAA Tournament.  The Sandy, Utah native was named the Daktronics Southeast Region Player of the Year, Peach Belt Conference Co-Player of the Year and named to the All-PBC Tournament Team after scoring a goal in all three contests as the Lady Cougars won their fourth Conference Championship in five years.

The College of St. Rose led all schools with five First Team All-Americans and enters the national semifinals with a perfect 23-0 record.  Grand Valley State, another national semifinalist was second three First Team selections and four total.  Casey Smith of North Georgia was the only other student-athlete from the Peach Belt Conference to garner All-American status, as she was chosen to the Third Team.

The Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award was named for long-time South Dakota State sports information director Ron Lenz in 2008.  Lenz was instrumental in the foundation of the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America program, which honors outstanding student-athletes across eight NCAA Division II sports.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 24 different institutions filled out the three teams.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA), with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
