EDMOND, Okla. – Southwest Minnesota State wrestlers Brian Rodas and David Albrecht were both ranked in the latest edition of the national rankings released Wednesday by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Albrecht who was not previously ranked is ranked No. 7 in the country at 149 pounds, while Rodas is currently ranked at No. 8 at 285 pounds.
Rodas, a native of Farmersburg, Iowa, was the first Mustang to be ranked this season. Rodas entered the season at No. 8 at 285 pounds. The junior has yet to wrestle this season after playing for the SMSU football team this fall. Last season, Rodas qualified for the national tournament at 285 pounds and finished the season with a record of 12-8.
Albrecht, a native of Woodbury, Minn., cracks the top-eight for the first time this season. He is currently ranked at No. 7 in the country at 149 pounds. The junior is 10-4 on the season after picking up his third pin of the season last night at the Sioux Falls Triangular. Albrecht also picked up his first major decision of the season last night defeating USF’s Clint Mckee 16-4.
The Mustangs will continue action this weekend when they head to Storm Lake, Iowa to compete in the Buena Vista open beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
