Red Storm Rout Pacifica

Six individual or team records set in 69-point blowout

ST. GEORGE, UTAH (December 4) – Dixie State College opened up Saturday night’s non-conference tilt with Pacifica College on a 15-0 run and never looked. Behind an incredible shooting night by Tom Whitehead and six total Red Storm players in double figures, the Storm walloped the visiting Gladiators 110-41 in front of 1,513 fans in the Burns Arena.

Whitehead hit eight-of-nine shots from the floor including six three pointers en route to a game-high 25 points. His .857 percentage from the arc tied his own DSC record. Whitehead nailed his first triple at the 17:54 mark of the first half and had three more connection over the next three minutes to give Dixie State (5-3) a 22-2 lead. The cushion would increase to as many as 37 points before the halftime break.

An opening 13-0 spurt to the second half nearly mimicked the first half before the Storm held their biggest lead at 70 points, 100-30.

Totaling double figures for Dixie State included Derek Owen with 15 points and 12 points a piece from Griffon Jones, Solomen Jensen and Brett Adams. Rounding out the crew with 10 points was Maurice Cole.

Starting point guard Jeremiah Barnes dished out a record 13 assists, besting the old record of 12 by Dan Stock against Carroll College in 2006.

The team broke records for assists in a game (28), field goals made (45) and points in a game while tying the mark for rebounds with 51. DSC also toppled eighteen individual career or season bests.

Duwayne Tutt paced the Gladiators with 14 points and six rebounds.

Dixie State College heads to Montana for a couple of critical non-conference match-up beginning Thursday night at Carroll College. Tip is scheduled for 7:00pm. The weekend will conclude at 5:15pm on Saturday against the Yellowjackets of Montana State-Billings.

NOTES: Donovan Plunkett was suspended for the game for a violation of team rules. He is eligible to return to practice starting Monday. Every DSC player that saw time scored at least two points. Whitehead was called for a technical foul after a rim-rattling dunk off the baseline for slapping the backboard.
