Queens Downs Coker Women 82-44

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Freshman Shanice Cooper (Sumter, S.C.) scored a career high 13 points with five rebounds in the Cobras' 82-44 loss to Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday night in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action.

The Royals used dominating post play, led by Shonice Pettaway's game high 27 points and 13 rebounds, with the help of Marissa Hudley and her 18 points and 10 rebounds, to overpower the Coker women.

Queens jumped out to an early 13-5 lead to start the game, but the Cobras battled their way back to a four point deficit 26-22 with 7:30 left in the first half. Unfortunately, that would be as close as Coker would get for the remainder of the game. A 19-2 run by Queens gave the Royals a sizable 21 point lead that would hold heading into halftime.

The second half was much of the same, as Queens continued to pour on the offensive pressure, gaining as much as a 40 point lead at one point during the final 20 minutes of play.

In addition to Cooper's double figure performance, junior Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.) had 11 points and freshman Sylina Dennis (Sumter, S.C.) had eight points for the Cobras.

Adding to the Queens offense were a pair of nine point efforts from Melissa Thomas and Dyonna Battle.

The Cobra women will return to the floor on Monday, December 13 when they take to the road to face South Carolina State University.
