BOCA RATON - Lynn University’s men’s basketball team fell to Palm Beach Atlantic, 82-68, Wednesday night at LU’s de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center. Lynn falls to 2-5 on the season while the Sailfish improve to 7-3.
Jovan Robinson led the Fighting Knights with 16 points and sunk four threes and Jimmy Gaskins recorded his second-straight double-double with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
The performance by Lynn’s swingmen were unable to outduel PBA, however, as the Sailfish shot 50.8% from the field, led by 29 points by Jonathan Lawrence. Lawrence went 10-15 shooting on the night, made four from behind the arc and was 5-5 from the charity stripe. Dante Valentine finished one rebound shy of a triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.
PBA was in control early in the first half and took a 22-10 lead with 12:38 to go in the first stanza. Lynn then went on an 18-2 run in the next four minutes and 40 seconds to take a 28-24 lead behind five points apiece by Gaskins, Rodney Kennedy and Josh Garcia.
The teams went into the locker room tied at 39 and LU would jump out to a 53-47 lead, its largest of the game, before a 17-2 run by the Sailfish gave PBA control of the contest.
LU shot just 39.1% from the field, went 10-of-32 from three point land and missed ten free throws on the night. Another bright spot for Lynn on the night was recording 21 assists, including seven from Garcia and six from Kennedy, both of which are career-highs.
