Lloyd began his highlight-filled day by taking home team most valuable player accolades before being called back up on stage minutes later to be presented with the distinguished laurel. Josh Throckmorton was decorated with offensive MVP honors after turning in a team-high four receiving touchdowns, Adam Deese was named defensive MVP after setting a new school record with 86 tackles and redshirt freshman Bill Stanley was lauded with special teams MVP honors following an initial campaign that watched him finish with a 39.8 yard punting average.
Tamari White and Jordan Lilly collected individual offensive and defensive scout team honors, respectively.
Lloyd, who returned for his fifth season in the Black and Gold despite graduating with his bachelor’s degree in May, finished with team-bests in both receptions (53) and receiving yards (547) in pacing a very solid receiving corps for the Braves. He saw time in just six games over his first two seasons in Pembroke and did not record a reception, but proved to be a valuable part of the UNCP offense over the last two seasons, registering 69 pass receptions and 731 yards while also scoring four touchdowns. He caught at least one pass in 20 of the 21 games in which he played in over the last two years, including matching a school record with eight receptions in games with Fairmont State and Winston-Salem State in 2010.
He became the first player in the short history of the football program in Pembroke to sweep both the team MVP and BRAVES awards. The BRAVES award, according to head coach Pete Shinnick, is given to “the person who embodies what we’re trying to do and the principles of the program.”
Throckmorton, a Hope Mills native, accounted for 391 receiving yards on 36 receptions this season, while also cashing in on a team-high four touchdown receptions, including two against Wingate. He turned in a season-best 81 receiving yards in the season finale against North Greenville to finish his career in the Black and Gold with 102 pass receptions for 1,168 yards and nine touchdowns.
The only UNCP football player to have appeared in all 42 games of the program’s intercollegiate history, Deese registered a program-best 245 career tackles, including a school record 86 stops in 2010. He will exit Pembroke with seven school defensive records including five career marks, as well as the single season benchmark for forced fumbles (3) and fumbles recovered (3). Deese is also UNCP's career leader in total tackles (245), solo tackles (125), assisted tackles (120), forced fumbles (7) and fumbles recovered (8). He also holds UNCP's individual record for defensive touchdowns, scoring on both an interception and a fumble recovery in 2010.
Stanley, a Ramseur native, punted 45 times for 1,790 yards this season and ranked 39th nationally with a 39.78 punting average. He played a key role in the nation’s 13th-best net punting squad (36.76 net yards/punt) and, of his 45 kicks, 10 of them went for better than 50 yards, 15 pinned the opponent inside the 20-yard line and nine resulted in fair catches. He punted for better than a 41-yard average in five games, and recorded a season-best 63-yard boot against Concord.
White, a Jacksonville product, served an important role on UNCP’s offensive scout team after rushing for more than 1,600 yards in his senior season at White Oak High School. Likewise, Lilly served an integral part of the defensive scout team after redshirting with the Black and Gold last season. He came to Pembroke following a senior campaign at West Rowan High School that saw him book 90 tackles and a trio of forced fumbles. Both Lilly and White are expected to push for ample playing time with the Braves next season.
