Lady Broncos Fall in Second Game in Hawaii

HONOLULU -- Hawaii Pacific shot 55 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos 75-59 on the second day of the Hoop & Surf Basketball Tournament on Thursday night.

LaQuasha Jordan (Jr., Greenville, NC), fighting dehydration, did not start but scored a team-high 19 points off the bench while Tiffany Haywood (Sr., Fayetteville, NC) just missed her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Broncos (1-6).

Jordan made 6 of 11 shots from the floor, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range, but Hawaii Pacific (5-3) used a decisive 38-25 edge in the second half to build on its three-point edge at the break.

Mana Hopkins-Vandenakker led all players with 28 points while Paris Gravely added 19 for the Lady Sea Warriors.

Fayetteville State used a 10-0 run midway through the first half to build a 20-11 lead, getting two 3s from Jordan to spark the run.

But Hawaii Pacific recovered before the end of the half, taking a 37-34 lead into the break.

Fayetteville State is off until a Jan. 3 contest on the road at the University of District Columbia.
