Honolulu, HI (12/30/10) – The HPU men’s basketball team returned to action tonight with a 77-74 win over Concordia University-Ann Arbor. Jason Jackson (10 pts, 6 reb) hit a three-pointer as time expired to give the Sea Warriors the win at the Blaisdell Center. HPU improves to 4-7 while Concordia falls to 8-7.
Five Sea Warriors posted double figures led by Adrian den Dulk with 16 points. Royal Edwards recorded 15 points off the bench and LaBrent Chappell added 13 points and six assists.
Marius Williams led Concordia with 24 points in the losing effort.
The Sea Warriors built a comfortable 55-42 lead midway through the second half. The Cardinals responded with a 14-2 run, tying the game on a Rocko Holmes layup with 7:15 remaining.
Chappell hit a three pointer with 2:02 left to give HPU a small 72-66 cushion, but with under a minute to play Williams tied the game at 74-74 with one of his four three pointers. Jackson then won the game on his only three-point attempt of the evening.
Kyle Allen added 10 points and eight rebounds for HPU.
The Sea Warriors retake the court on New Year’s Day versus Westminster College. Start time at the Neal Blaisdell Center is set at 6:00 p.m. after the HPU women’s basketball game.
